Are you tired of the “Are you flossing?” song and dance? Find the Root Cause Instead: An Interview with Angie Bays

Dr. McGlennen: What are the biggest benefits to using salivary diagnostics?

Angie RDH: The biggest benefit with offering MyPerioPath® is it gives the clinician another platform for educating the patient. I know patients are fed up of hearing about brushing and flossing, just as much as hygienists are weary of saying it. Don’t get me wrong brushing and flossing are important but OralDNA® takes care to another level. We can now show the patient the root cause of the infection, maybe even tie those bacteria to what may be going on overall in their body What an empowering piece of information and patients become engaged!

Dr. McGlennen: What are the top two things to consider when you select a patient for testing?

Angie RDH: That is an easy question to answer, everyone. We offer it to everyone. In our office training and the continuing education conferences that we attend, we have learned the value of testing and see that all of our patients will benefit from these tests. We present to everyone what they need and let the patient decide.

Dr. McGlennen: What is your favorite part of the MyPerioPath results? Why?

Angie RDH: The MyPerioPath® results are color coded and broken down into a language that both the clinician and patient can understand. I love that the results page gives you step by step instructions for reducing pathogens. It’s very organized.

Dr. McGlennen: How do your patient’s respond to this technology? What is their #1 question?

Angie RDH: Our patients are genuinely interested, there is a natural curiosity when it comes to finding out how your body works and about the oral systemic link. It is real simple, everything is connected. Patients don’t question advancements in medicine so it only makes sense that dentistry will make advancements too.

Dr. McGlennen: If a new OralDNA® provider were to ask you for advice, what would be your best tip?

Angie RDH: There needs to be a full team approach. If everyone on your team is organized in their approach and they have a passion for improving lives, the patients will notice and want to be healthier too.
