Do you keep score?<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at some of the more common preventive strategies. How does your practice rate?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the scorecard:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20359 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oraldna.com\/trends-in-salivary-testing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/preventative-scorecard.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oraldna.com\/trends-in-salivary-testing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/preventative-scorecard.png 571w, https:\/\/www.oraldna.com\/trends-in-salivary-testing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/preventative-scorecard-300x194.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>How does your practice perform?<\/p>\n<p>A score of less than 22-27 indicates that you have a great opportunity to improve the health of your patients and improve the bottom line of your practice.<\/p>\n<p>Why wouldn\u2019t one minimally offer all of these to every patient?<\/p>\n<p>I hear several excuses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Insurance won\u2019t cover it.<\/li>\n<li>My patients won\u2019t pay for it.<\/li>\n<li>I don\u2019t have time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What each of these excuses have in common is a failure to prioritize and a lack of perceived value, both on the part of the team and the patients.<\/p>\n<p>Perceived values can be increased by a variety of tactics.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Patient Testimonials: Seeing someone else\u2019s results uses the Cialdini Principle of \u201cSocial Proof.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Education: People don\u2019t often know that there are preventive opportunities available. Tell people what you can do to help them prevent disease and deterioration.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Authority: Another of Dr. Cialdini\u2019s principles; it can be stimulated by constantly communicating the literature that shows the oral-systemic interaction, and the benefits of maintaining excellent oral health, patients and team members can hear from other \u201cexperts\u201d what the dentists have been promoting.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Stories: Like testimonials, stories of success or even stories of undesired consequences can stimulate a \u201cfear of loss\u201d stimulating Dr. Cialdini\u2019s principle of \u201cScarcity.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Dr. Cialdini\u2019s 7 principles of INFLUENCE can be used during marketing, phone conversations and treatment presentations to enhance the perceived value of your services to patients in need of them. And who doesn\u2019t need them?<\/p>\n<p>If you truly believe that your services add value to your patients, then you have an ethical and professional responsibility to do your utmost to INFLUENCE your patient to accept the care. The ethical promotion of your services is a skill that can be learned.
