The theme of our meeting is “Oral Medicine: The Past, The Present, and The Future.” In 1945, “The Past,” Dr. Samuel Charles Miller founded the academy with a keen intent to integrate dental and medical issues. This inspiration has formed a strong foundation, “The Present,” that over the years, through education, collaboration, and research, has set standards for managing medically complex dental patients and providing patient care for complex oral conditions and rare disorders. Bringing us to “The Future,” salivary diagnostics will play a key role. Saliva testing and salivary diagnostic research has been a part of my clinical research interest and most recently learned more about OraRisk® HPV lately from OralDNA® team. A special thanks to OralDNA® for providing an opportunity to express my warm invite on behalf of AAOM.

Being part of this excellent academy, I appreciate its global presence. In addition to providing lectures and presentations from pioneers, the conference provides an opportunity for mentorship and inspiration for current endeavors, which sets a foundation for futuristic clinical and research approaches. Each year the conference hosts international speakers and attendees. My experience has included meeting with peers across the United States and from other countries. For example, every 4 years AAOM participates in World Workshop on Oral Medicine. In 2018, I had an opportunity to be part of the World Workshop on Oral Medicine VII. This took place in conjunction with the 2018 European Academy of Oral Medicine held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The outcomes from these workshops set a foundation for future clinical care and research and the results were presented during 2019 AAOM Annual conference.

This year I am looking forward to our 75th annual conference that features the past, the present, and the future with an opening Sol Silverman lecture on April 29th, 2020, followed by various education sections that are focused on clinical care and research. This year, AAOM will also be hosting an exclusive event to commemorate our 75th Anniversary. You can experience peer interactions and explore opportunities at our President’s Reception and awards banquet. I want to invite you to join in the celebration of our 75th annual conference.
