The Story Behind Referral Conduit: Why We Are Uniting Dentistry and Medicine

Every dental professional has experienced that exact moment of frustration. You are looking into a patient’s mouth, seeing severe periodontal inflammation, and you know with absolute certainty that it is wrecking their systemic health—whether they are managing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cognitive decline.

You want to co-manage their care with their primary care physician. But when you try to reach out, you hit a brick wall. The pathway just isn’t there.

As we cross from National Gum Care Month in September into October’s Oral Systemic Health Month and National Dental Hygiene Month, this disconnect feels more obvious than ever. For decades, dentistry has operated on an isolated island. We grew tired of watching patients fall through that medical-dental divide. We knew there had to be a better way to connect the dots, and that spark is exactly why we built Referral Conduit and launched the Dental Referral Marketing Podcast.

Our mission is to shatter the old silos. We don’t believe dentistry should be an afterthought in systemic health, and we certainly don’t believe dental teams should feel like they are on the outside looking in. The dental chair is the absolute perfect frontline for early wellness intervention. We are here to give dental teams—and the brilliant hygienists leading the charge on the ground—the practical communication tools, confidence, and networking strategies they need to lead that healthcare conversation in their communities.

But bridging the gap takes more than just reading clinical studies. It requires a repeatable strategy. It requires taking objective data—like an OralDNA® MyPerioPath® report—and presenting it to physicians in a way that commands instant clinical respect. This is something we highlighted recently in our podcast conversation with OralDNA’s own Diane Larson (Director of Clinical Education).

Through Referral Conduit, we teach practices how to shift their positioning from “just a dentist looking for business” to an essential healthcare partner co-managing a mutual patient. We are helping teams move away from dropping off standard marketing brochures and moving toward building collaborative clinical loops with local MDs.

Where we are headed is an ecosystem of interdisciplinary trust. We want to see a community where local medical doctors and dentists are actively collaborating, catching systemic risks early, and growing their practices through trusted, data-driven medical referrals.

We are changing the way healthcare professionals talk to one another, one referral at a time. If you want to see how we make these connections happen in the real world, we would love for you to join our community.
